Bay Area soccer roundup: SF Deltas sign three more players

SF DELTAS SIGN 3 MORE PLAYERS, HOST JOB FAIR

NASL side, San Francisco Deltas announced this week, the signing of three more players, bringing their total of signed players to 11. Including the four unsigned players discovered during November’s open tryouts, the Deltas will have a total of 15 players in training camp, set to begin January 30.

San Francisco signed Canadian defender Karl W. Ouimette, Spanish midfielder Cristian Portilla and Dutch defender Kenny Teijsse for the 2017 inaugural season.

Ouimette, a standout youth player with the Montreal Impact, and their first-ever academy player to sign an MLS contract, has made multiple appearances for the Canada National Team, and hoping to be included in Canada’s trip to Bermuda for a CONCACAF friendly on January 22.

Midfielder, Portilla has played for first-division squads in Spain, Greece, Hungary and Cyprus, and competed against the likes of Messi, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and David Villa. Most recently, he appeared in 19 matches for Mensajero of Segunda División B in Spain.

Kenny Teijsse has primarily played left back, but the Deltas are thinking he might be an asset all over the field. He’s played the whole of his professional career in his native Netherlanda, including stints FC Utrecht, FC Oss, Helmond Sport and Sparta Rotterdam. Most recently, he’s been with the Go Ahead Eagles of the Eredivisie.

The Deltas are hosting a job fair on Saturday, February 11, as part of their effort to staff up Kezar Stadium for their inaugural season. Positions available include Box Office Staff, Ticket Takers, Ushers, and Street Team Marketing roles.

Additionally the Delta’s stadium partners, Admiral Security, Best Beverage Catering, and Clean Vibes are participating in the job fair and will be accepting applications.

FOUR DRAGONS FC PLAYERS DRAFTED BY MLS

Burlingame Dragons FC, one of two Bay Area Premier Development League sides has 4 players selected in the 2017 Major League Soccer SuperDraft, giving the club 5 players headed to the MLS.

Along with defender, Nick Lima who recently signed a home grown contract with the San Jose Earthquakes, the Dragons saw Brian Wright, Brian Nana-Sinkam, Christian Thierjung, and Josh Smith punch their ticket to the big leagues.

Wright and Smith selected in the 1st and 4th rounds respectively, are headed to the New England Revolution. Brian Nana-Sinkam was selected in the 1st round by the Seattle Sounders, while the 3rd round saw Christian Thierjung join the Dragons parent club, the San Jose Earthquakes.

Following the draft, Dragons President Jordan Gardner said, “This a truly a remarkable accomplishment for our franchise. On behalf of the Dragons front office and ownership, we wish all our guys the very best of luck as they pursue their careers in Major League Soccer.”
