Hello Bay FC! New NWSL team drops logo, stadium hint

NWSL Bay Area revealed the club’s name: Bay Football Club (Bay FC)

The NWSL Bay Area club has a name: Bay Football Club.

On Thursday morning, the club dropped its new logo via social media featuring a large B that incorporates the Golden Gate Bridge and the fog the San Francisco Bay Area is so well known for.

Bay FC is the brainchild of four former U.S. women’s team players with Bay Area roots: Leslie Osborne, Brandi Chastain, Aly Wagner, and Danielle Slaton. The club was awarded a franchise in the National Women’s Soccer League for a 50 million dollar expansion fee, with equity firm Sixth Street Partners providing the financial backing.

Despite the region being a hotbed in women’s college and youth soccer, the arrival of Bay FC hints at the start of the growth of professional soccer in the Bay Area. The Oakland Soul and The Town FC are also looking at starting pro women’s teams in the next few years.

Shortly after unveiling their logo, Bay FC released a hype video that prominently features both PayPal Park in San Jose and Kezar Stadium in San Francisco. An exciting possibility for the first-year club that will take the field in 2024 is they could split their home games between both stadiums.

PayPal is the home of the MLS San Jose Earthquakes, and Kezar was the home of the former NASL San Francisco Deltas, who played one season at the historic stadium in Haight Ashbury in 2017.

Bay FC will host a brand revel party with music from Kelley James, food trucks, and giveaways at the Presidio Main Post Lawn in San Francisco on Saturday, June 3rd, from noon to 3 pm. The event is free for everyone.

Chastain, Osborne, Slaton, and Wagner will be on hand to meet and greet fans. Former Meta COO Bay FC Investor Sheryl Sandberg and Alan Waxman, CEO of lead investment firm Sixth Street, will be on hand.
