A consolation goal from Jeremy Ebobisse was the only bright spot for the San Jose Earthquakes who fell 4-1 on the road to FC Dallas on Saturday.

Dallas’ Jesus Ferreira opened the game quickly with a strike in the third minute. Marco Farfan doubled the lead in the 20th minute and Fereira struck once more right before the halftime whistle.

Alan Velasco finished off the score for Dallas before Ebobisse scored his 14th goal on the season in the 60th minute.

“There are two things, one is the frustration. When you are trying to play the games to win, understanding that we have that hope until mathematically it’s not possible, we will fight for sure,” explained Quakes interim head coach Alex Covello. “What happened in the second minute is normal. It is difficult, but even like that, we were trying to play our game, and we knew that Dallas was a team that’s very narrow. We had to circulate and find our fullbacks a little bit higher on the pitch because [FC Dallas] protect very well the central area. Then the second goal happened. It’s difficult. There has been a lot of mistakes during in the season that have penalized us. I think that, even if you don’t see it, we have tough leaders in here in this locker room. They talk when they have to talk, like the players are doing right now.”

The Quakes will return to San Jose to host LAFC on Saturday, Aug. 20th.
