The San Jose Earthquakes’s Chofis scored two more goals to help defeat Austin FC 4-3 on Saturday.

Austin started out well scoring within six minutes of the opening whistle.

Marcos Lopez of San Jose responded in the seventeenth minute to tie the game. Austin FC’s Jon Gallagher and Alexander Ring responded with two goals to stake their team to a 3-1 lead at the half.

“The guys were frustrated at halftime, and we talked about it and had to go back to playing and being like ourselves,” said Quakes goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski.

San Jose did just that in the second half.

Cristian Espinoza scored in the 49th minute, and then Chofis converted a penalty kick in the 58th minute to tie the game. In the 63rd minute, Chofis gave San Jose the lead when he hit a rebounded shot into the back of the net.

“This causes me to be very happy,” San Jose Earthquakes Matias Almeyda noted about Chofis. “He is a young, talented player, and for a moment, he was torn by his critics. He can make mistakes, and he will learn from them. He will learn by my side, and he will keep growing.”

A few minutes later Austin’s Alex Ring was red-carded for his second yellow, digging an even bigger hole for them to climb out of. The Earthquakes were able to kill off the rest of the match and earn three points.

With the win, San Jose now has an eight-game unbeaten streak on the road this year. It’s the longest road unbeaten streak in team history.

“I think we showed tonight that we can do it and have nine games left to show it and show the rest of the league that we’re a team to really watch out for,” said Marcinkowski.
