NSL: Atletico East Bay tightened grip on first place

Atletico East Bay tightened its grip on first place in the NSL Pacific Division with a 5-2 win over third-place Vallejo Omega FC. The match ended a few minutes before the final whistle because a nearby power outage turned out the lights at Dan Foley Park. Atletico jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half on goals by Cristian Garcia in the 31st minute and Nathaniel Carrasco ten minutes later. Adrian Guzman added a third in the 60th minute on an assist from Elmer Hernandez. Vallejo’s Noah Ross scored twice to get his club back into the match, off of a rebound in the 66th minute and a header in the 80th minute. But Atletico’s Octavio Munoz put the match away one minute later, Roberto Gonzalez scored another, and the referee decided it was no longer safe to continue.

San Pablo FC continued its steady march up the table, vaulting into second place with a 3-0 win over the Oakland Stompers at Raimondi Park. With two weeks left in the regular season, San Pablo is two points behind Atletico and has played one fewer match. Even with the loss, the Stompers clinched a playoff spot.

San Leandro United FC broke their season-long scoring drought with a 6-1 win over NorCal Rush. San Leandro had scored only 3 times in their previous 7 matches.
