After his stellar play earned him MLS player of the week honors, Chofis continued his impressive run of form with a goal and assist in helping the Earthquakes down LAFC 2-1 at PayPal Park.

Three minutes in, Chofis set up Quakes forward Benji Kikanovic for their first goal.

“I knew it right as Chofis got the ball,” explained Kikanovic after the game. “All three of the [LAFC] defenders looked at him and I was like, ‘I’m going to run in behind them.’ I know Chofis is good enough to play me the ball on time and play me a good-weighted ball, and I just went. He played it on time, and I took a touch past the goalkeeper and just put it away. It was a great ball by Chofis, and there’s not much to it.”

Early in the second half, Chofis first-timed a shot past LAFC keeper Tomas Romero on an excellent assist from Marcos Lopez. It was his sixth goal in three games and eleventh of the season for San Jose.

San Jose remains three points out of the playoffs despite the victory, with ten games left in the season.

“Even though it’s going to be close up until the end, the guys have the desire to push for the playoffs and try to get up in the table as high as we can and play as best as we can,” said Quakes midfielder Jackson Yueill after the game.

Next up for the Quakes is the second-place Seattle Sounders next Wednesday night at home.
