The San Francisco Deltas conceded two early goals against the San Jose Earthquakes and ended up losing 2-0 in a US Open Cup match at Avaya Stadium in San Jose on Wednesday night.

The Quakes’ Jackson Yueill and Cordell Cato netted within the first six minutes. The Deltas ended up outshooting San Jose 18-9 for the game but were never able to get a ball past Quakes goalkeeper Andrew Tarbell.

“We only regret those six minutes. I think that was the only part of the game in which we actually felt inferior. The other eighty-three minutes of the game, we created as many opportunities as they did. Their keeper was very good tonight,” said SF Deltas head coach Marc Dos Santos.

“This game is going to give us more experience as a club,” Dos Santos continued. “We have to look at what we accomplished during the entire match, not just the beginning. We didn’t back down, and we have much to be proud of.”

With San Francisco’s US Open Cup run completed the Deltas return to league action playing FC Edmonton at Kezar Stadium in San Francisco on Saturday, June 17th at 7 pm.
